Finding/picking a doctor

Oh man. We are having a hard time figuring out our insurance plan and picking a dang midwife. We have insurance with Kaiser and apparently, our insurance doesn't cover a natural water birth with a midwife.

We will have to pay $4500 out of pocket.

GREAT.

So then what are we paying insurance for? I will use Kaiser hospital for lab tests and an ultrasound but I don't plan at all on doing much more there.

I have contacted some midwifes that do water births but I don't want to pick one until I know for sure my insurance won't cover anything. I am hoping we don't have to pay everything out of pocket but it doesn't seem like these women are contracted with many insurance companies.

I hate dealing with insurance. And big hospitals. I went to the hospital yesterday to try to talk to someone because the people on the phone I swear didn't even know what a water birth was or what a midwife was. And they looked at me like I was a horrible person for wanting to do a natural birth outside of a hospital, and in a TUB of all things. AHHHH!

I really wanted to figure all this out before we told people so I could look responsible and that I can handle things on my own. I hate the feeling when older generations suggest what I should do and ask what I am doing as if I don't know anything...

We need an adult who knows insurance and more about this whole process.

I can't wait to tell our families.
